Dioscvri
Dioscvri was an exploration of the art of block printing by three good friends: Kristin and I created and printed the artwork and my husband Andy was in charge of the fabrication of blocks, stamps, sculptures- anything 3D. Kristin and I are self taugh block printers, experimenting with different fabrics, papers, inks, breyers, and every surface imaginable to achieve best results. Andy experimented with different materials like wood and lino as well as different fabrication methods including CNC, laser cutters and water jets.
We played with the intersection of an ancient method of printing and the endless possibilities modern technology has to offer. By doing this, we were able to attain a very recognizable aesthetic inspired by things like folk art, primitive drawings and outsider art.
We made apparel, home goods and art pieces we sold online as well as at Craft Fairs.
Folkland Print
Folk + Oakland. Then based out of Oakland and inspired by folk art, the Folkland print is an amalgamation of Kristin’s and my artwork into an all over repeat. This was applied onto cut & sew apparel, manufactured in downtown San Francisco.
Digitally illustrated artwork by Kristin and myself, cut into physical wood blocks by Andy, later printed on fabric.
Hissing Leopard | Print & Graphic
A block created as a placed graphic, later made into a print. Used for apparel, wall art and wrapping paper.
Dioscvri x Machines for Freedom | Print & Placed Graphic
Machines for Freedom comissioned us to create a print and placed graphics to be used on t-shirts. We block printed the graphics, scanned and digitzed them to be screen printed. We were very happy with the results- the graphics actually looked block printed on the final product.
Sculptures
We wanted to explore with creating 3D objects from our illustrations. Inspired by the Sonoran Desert, I created 3 sculptures with wildlife found in the area: a Bobcat, a Quail and a Rattlesnake. All of these were kinetic sculptures with moving components, including springs on the snake’s tail and tongue. I designed and painted them, my husband Andy fabricated and assembled them.
